During this summer long program, each child will progressively create their own book. Each week a writing genre and prompt will be chosen, and the child will write a story then illustrate it by using a different art technique. Proper writing guidelines and techniques will be explained, and each participant will be encouraged to share some of their writing. The importance and significance of book covers will be taught as well as critiquing each other's work.
At the end of the summer reading program, the stories and adjoining artwork will be laminated and spiral bound into a book that they will keep. Having a good time and working with others is a must!
The purpose of this writing program is to fill the 'learning gap' that occurs over the summer by encouraging free writing and creativity of illustrating that work.
This program is for grades K-5.
