"Dear Sallie:" Love Letters from the Civil War

In 1863, Jesse Burkett of West Milton served in the Union Army, longing for his home and his girl. His letters to his sweetheart, Sallie Weddle, from nearby Pigeye (south of West Milton), were found in the walls of a house being demolished in Illinois. The letters were donated to the Milton-Union Public Library, where they are being preserved and added to the permanent collection.
